CDS Professional Services

The range of CDS’ expertise allows us to provide transformational e-business solutions. Our services include strategy consulting, system architecture, web development, systems integration and support. What we don’t do for our customers is network design and installation, content development or provide creative services. However, we recognize these as important components of a total solution. Therefore, we partner with the industry’s best in these areas. CDS personnel act as virtual CTO/CIO for numerous organizations. We work with organizations at the highest levels to strategize on aligning their business goals and IT infrastructure. For a small number of exciting start-up organizations, CDS takes our partnership to another level by incubating these companies at our facilities.

CDS partners with its clients to solve business and technology problems. For CDS to contribute to this mission we must know your business model, goals and obstacles as well if not better than any of your employees.

We assign a Virtual CTO to your account to acquire the in-depth knowledge of your business and to act both as your trusted advisor and the leader of further efforts by internal CDS teams.

Your VCTO will rely on world class Requirements Analysts to adequately define and detail the required data. From your organizations internal understanding of the goals or the creation of an RFP for project bidding to actual referendum on the most granular of system design details, we rely heavily on our Requirements Analysts to ensure that we are all focused on the exact same problem and solution.

We also utilize the theories of change management and the associated principals to enable organizational ‘buy-in’ rather than ‘top-down’ methodology. This always brings the core of an organization to the same page and engages the efforts of the ‘majority’ not just the ‘few’.

Overseeing all of the consulting efforts, CDS assigns a Project Manager. Our project managers are engaged throughout the process and we view this as a substantial benefit to the client. You will have a single go-to person who manages the tasks and deliverables of all consultants. This early stage involvement is also hugely beneficial as any defined strategies begin to be implemented. Whether CDS is building a custom software application or managing the selection, purchase and integration of a third party application, you will have a history and working understanding with your project manager.

Virtual CTO

Technology is becoming an increasingly integrated aspect of operations and production. Companies invest more in technology and expect more from it. Therefore, a company’s strategic planning is often tied directly to strategic technology planning.

Today’s strong economy has placed a severe limitation on skilled IT personnel and has limited the ability for many firms to hire a full-time Chief Technology Officer. Our concept of the Virtual Chief Technology Officer (VCTO) is to make experienced senior technology consultants available as a dedicated resource to our clients. The VCTO is as on-call and available as you require, they are in essence, your employee.

Your VCTO will come to know and understand your business goals as well as any of your employees and then be able to co-create the technology path that best suits your model.

Some of the technology planning topics that your VCTO will advise you on include the following:

Change Management/Organizational Development

The AllignIT process enables a company to quickly identify and build consensus around the obstacles that exist to the organization’s success. Electronic voting terminals allow individuals to anonymously prioritize these issues and rank the company’s performance on each. This leads to the development of an information technology plan that addresses your current challenges and makes the most of your future opportunities. Your organization will accomplish a number of things in this 2 day process, including:

•Fully incorporate the best ideas from your employees, customers, suppliers and competitors into your business.

•Find hidden capacities within your organization to do more.

•Gain employee commitment.

•Discover new business opportunities.

•Allign efforts for better teamwork and improved performance.

•Identify how to redistribute your resources from ineffective activities to activities that really contribute to the bottom line.

•Discover best practices and extend them throughout your business.

•Allign your business and IT strategies, in critical areas including e-commerce.

Company History

CDS was founded by Dewey Gaedcke in 1986. While studying at the University of Texas at Austin, Dewey got a job at the UT Microcenter developing database solutions for departments on campus. There he built a reputation for his personal commitment to the needs of each customer and for getting each job done right, on time and on budget. Soon, Dewey became the most requested employee at the UT Microcenter. Upon his graduation, he left the Microcenter, but to his surprise, UT departments kept calling him. So, with a $5,000 investment in equipment, CDS was born.

Fourteen years later, word of mouth is still the way CDS is introduced to most of our new business. However, today, in addition to departments at the University of Texas, we answer calls from departments at Cisco Systems, Motorola, Nortel Networks, Texas Department of Transportation, EDS, The Texas Governor's Office, Williams Communications Solutions and from the CEO’s of Yehti, Answers.com, iTEAM, and Syrus.com. From our headquarters in Austin, TX we support these industry leading and start up organizations around Texas and across the country.

CDS has been helping companies leverage internet technology from the very beginning. Our pioneering work created the internet’s first fully automated on-line configurator in the early ‘90’s. Today, Dewey Gaedcke serves as President and Chairman of the Board of Complete Data Solutions, Inc. Despite all our growth and all the technology changes over the years, one thing at CDS remains the same. That is the philosophy Dewey started out with in 1986, a philosophy of personal commitment to the needs of each customer and to delivering high quality solutions on time and on budget.

Motorola

"Motorola: chose CDS to be our partner on this project because of your expertise, enthusiasm for your work and your flexibility. Mostly, however, it was the comfort level I received from CDS president, Dewey Gaedcke, that he and his team would help us design the best solution to meet our business needs. CDS’ expertise in internet and database development coupled with our knowledge of Motorola business needs and the flexibility of both parties proved to be a very successful combination." Cindy Montemorra, Call Center Manager, Motorola. CDS partnered with Motorola to transform the operations of its Customer Response Center and World Marketing Organizations in Phoenix, AZ. A highly successful intranet solution was developed that expanded throughout Motorola’s Phoenix and Austin operations. CDS designed the system architecture, developed the solution, assisted Motorola in selecting the best hardware and software to support their needs, and CDS provided database administration and support services. CDS and Motorola have worked together on numerous successful initiatives such as this one over the years.

KnowItAll

KnowItAll.com: "CDS has been a strategic partner of KnowItAll.com’s from the company’s inception. Our needs have always been a high priority and CDS’ response time has been outstanding. CDS has proven to us that despite their roster of large customers, the needs of a small company like ours are just as important to them." Steve Vandegrift, Board of Advisors, KnowItAll.com   Founded in February, 1999, KnowItAll.com was the first company incubated by CDS. We provided Virtual CIO services, strategic consulting, contribution to the company’s corporate image package, fund raising assistance, development hosting and infrastructure support. On October 25, 2000 CDS was proud to announce the successful acquisition of KnowItAll.com by Answers.com. CDS employees share in the equity of CDS as well as in the equity of several exciting start ups including KnowItAll.com, so October 25 was a day of celebration for all!

Nortel Networks.

Nortel Networks: "In selecting a technology partner, the cost/value proposition is very important. Working with CDS has provided an excellent return on investment for Nortel Networks. This is something that few companies can say about major technology initiatives." Olga Stroud, Information Systems Manager, Nortel Networks. CDS and Nortel Networks have had a multi-year partnership that has resulted in numerous highly successful initiatives for the company. One of our most high profile solutions is PSI, Professional Services Intranet. The architecture CDS designed for this growing solution supports 20,000 simultaneous users worldwide. PSI gives management an exact snap shot of the progress and results of the company’s engineering projects, and it gives employees access from anywhere in the world. The system was originally designed for Nortel’s remote Caribbean salesforce. CDS worked with Nortel I.S. teams to expand the original system to support the global needs of the company.
